The Ritual Year: Skin, Season & the Practice of Care
A quiet space for seasonal ritual, botanical practice, and the rhythms that shape a year.
The Ritual Year is a reflective body of writing exploring how ritual can bring us closer to the changing relationship between skin, body, plants, and season. Through seasonal observations, botanical practices, and simple everyday rituals, these essays follow the quieter rhythms of care, washing, touching, resting, making, gathering, and beginning again.
Where The Living Law Series explores the principles that connect us to land, body, and consequence, The Ritual Year turns those principles into practice. It asks what happens when we slow down enough to notice what the season is doing, how the skin is responding, and what might be needed now rather than what we have been taught to continually add.
The story continues
The Ritual Year began with a question: what happens when the relationships explored through Living Law become part of the way we actually practise care? The Botanical Archive takes the next step. Moving from practice into deeper botanical understanding, this twelve-part series follows the plants behind our rituals, exploring their ecology, chemistry, adaptation, cultivation, extraction, and place within skincare formulation, while asking how we can work with botanicals with greater knowledge, respect, and responsibility.
Living Law was the remembering. The Ritual Year was the practice. The Botanical Archive is the knowing.
